Reaching high above New York City, from 1973 until that truly tragic day in 2001, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were on most New Yorkers lists of favourite buildings in the city. They stood proud and tall over the world’s greatest city and were more than just a simple landmark.
The Towers were just as symbolic an icon of New York City as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Guggenheim Museum, or Yankee Stadium are.
Anyone who lived or worked within sight of the Twin Towers found them strangely reassuring. You just felt “right” when you could see them.
These pictures are scans of prints that were taken during the 80’s & 90’s. The quality is not outstanding, but they are, to be fair, pretty old and very amateur.
Please enjoy them and remember in your hearts not only the Twin Towers, but all who perished within them on this day in 2001.
