The Little Red Lighthouse is REALLY little – only standing 40 ft./12 m. high.
You will find this charming little lighthouse under the Manhattan side of the George Washington Bridge, in Fort Washington Park.
Originally erected in 1880, on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, it was relocated to its New York location in 1921.
With the opening of the brightly-lit George Washington Bridge in 1931, the lighthouse became obsolete and was finally decommissioned in 1948.
This is the last surviving lighthouse on Manhattan island.
